Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 400F. Defrost your pie shell, if needed.
  2. Cook bac*n substitute according to package directions. Most suggest lightly pan frying for best results.
  3. In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, 1/4 cup maple syrup, cornstarch, cinnamon, and ginger. Mix well.
  4. Carefully pile apples into prepared crust. It’s ok if they go over the top of the crust, they will shrink as they bake.
  5. Arrange cooked bac*n strips on top. In a pretty fashion if you desire or free style it.
  6. Brush top of bac*n with remaining 1 tablespoon maple syrup. Cover pie with foil and bake 50-60 minutes, until apples are bubbling. Remove foil and bake for an additional 5 minutes uncovered.
  7. Let cool 1 hour before slicing. Super hot apples are no joke. Enjoy!
Recipe Notes

It seems most packages of bacon substitutes are 5-6 oz. This is enough to ‘mostly’ cover the top of a 9″ pie. You can see in my pictures that the entire top was not covered. If you would like to completely cover the pie, you’ll need 1 1/2-2 packages, depending on the brand.
